You can use the services of a solicitor or gestor to make your application and then collect NIE when it is ready. Solictors charge between €150 and €250 for the service, Gestors are generally cheaper.

Whoever you choose to make the application for you will need a Power of Attorney (POA). The POA must be sworn before a notary either in Spain or the UK. It is usually cheaper to have the document done in Spain. If you are using a Solictor to carry out your house purchase you may well already have created a POA for them with general powers to act on your behalf.

If you want your Solicitor to act only on your behalf regarding your NIE Number specify this in the POA. If you are making a POA with general powers make sure you specify that it ends once your house purchase is completed. It is not unknown for unscrupulous Solicitors to abuse a POA well after a purchase is completed.
